Yumehara Nozomi ( (ゆめ) (はら)のぞみ?) is one of the five main Cures in Yes! Pretty Cure 5 and Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo! and also the group leader. She is a second-year student at L'École des Cinq Lumières Middle School and is in the same class as Rin and later Kurumi.

Nozomi's alter ego is Cure Dream (キュアドリーム?) and she is known as the Pretty Cure of Hope. Her catchphrase is "It’s decided!" ( (けっ) (て〜い)!?).

Bio[]

Appearance[]

Nozomi has purple eyes and shoulder-length dark magenta hair worn down with small amounts pulled into pigtails held by yellow bobbles. Her casual wear in Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo! consists of a pale pink puff-sleeved blouse, dark blue knee-length pants and brown shoes. For summer, she switches to a pink top and a short, pale pink vest decorated with ribbons and pom-poms along with a blue skirt and pale pink socks, with the same shoes as before.

In the Yes! Pretty Cure 5 movie, she wears a puffy pink and dark magenta checkered jacket with a fluffy hood, a light blue pleated mini-skirt, navy socks, and pink and white sneakers. In the Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo! movie, she wears a frilly pale yellow long-sleeved turtleneck top with a short-sleeved light pink blouse over it. She also wears blue shorts and light brown boots lined with fluff.

As an adult, Nozomi's hair has grown longer, and tied as braids at the back of her head with a gold hairclip, and she no longer has pigtails. She wears a light violet blouse, matched with a peach pink coat, and a black belt with a silver buckle. She also wears a pair of misty gray trousers, olive green socks, and dark brown flats.

She wears a salmon pink blouse, a dark red strapped skirt, and yellow and teal accented sneakers as her adult casual outfit.

As Cure Dream, her hair and eyes brighten, and her hair grows to navel length. Her pigtails turn into large rings held by a yellow butterfly and she gains pink butterfly earrings. She gains a white and fuchsia lined two-piece with matching gloves and socks. Ruffled, pale chiffon trim lines the skirt and sleeves, and on the chest is a pink butterfly with a green gem. On her waist is a bow. She also gains fuchsia shorts and short boots with pink detail. On her hand is a light pink butterfly, and her Pinky Catch is worn on the left wrist.

As Super Cure Dream, her hair becomes lighter and her outfit has additional ruffles and slightly changed accents. She gains a pair of large pink butterfly wings.

In GoGo!, her rings are held with yellow ribbons that have a pale pink rose on the front. Her earrings and shorts stay the same. Her outfit becomes a ruffled dress with magenta accenting on the sleeves and lining the pink vest worn over it. The butterfly changes in shape and is now chiffon, with a string connected to the small purse on her right hip. Her boots, socks, and fingerless gloves change in shape.

As Shining Dream, her hair grows out and turns neon pink while her hair accessories change into white wings. Her outfit turns pale pink and magenta with her sleeves, skirt, vest, leg warmers, and boots changing shape. A light pink rose appears on her chest while giant angel-like wings appear on her back. She wears a similar outfit as Rainbow Cure Dream, but her wings are smaller and gold.

As Dream Cure Grace, her hair is longer, gains a lighter gradient, and now has two rings. Her ribbons turn into butterflies with long antennae and her earrings gain green leaves. She wears a puffy-sleeved white dress with two frilly collars, one larger than the other, held by a pale yellow bow with a lavender rose and a green gem. Her skirt resembles large butterfly wings with a light pink design along with yellow dots and magenta hearts. Underneath the skirt are translucent pink and pale pink layers, and in the back is a large light pink butterfly-shaped bow. Her gloves are smaller and white with a pink heart ring, and her boot flaps and stockings change slightly.

Personality[]

Nozomi is a caring individual with a big heart and a bright perspective. While realizing she may not be talented or have any usable skills, she makes up for it by being very friendly and kind towards others, even her enemies. A bit of a late thinker, she sometimes gets distracted; especially when food is involved. She is also childish, loud, and clumsy, and does not seem to make decisions rationally.

As Cure Dream, she is noticeably more serious. She also gains more strength and never hesitates to help others.

Relationships[]

  • Natsuki Rin: Best friends since childhood, Nozomi is very close to Rin and they appear to know each other the best out of anyone. While Rin is popular because of her athleticism, she's never stopped being on good terms with her, regardless of how many times Nozomi annoys her with strange ideas. Nozomi admires Rin and it's because of this that she went to request she become a Pretty Cure with her.
  • Kasugano Urara: Urara is a lot like Nozomi in terms of personality. However, before meeting Nozomi she was always lonely and had no one to spend time with at lunch. Ever since befriending Nozomi, the two have fun together and have a strong friendship. Urara also looks up to Nozomi.
  • Coco: Nozomi has had a crush on Coco's human form from the first time they met. Coco has taken it upon himself to be her mentor and protector, and they have spent many times together. It's strongly implied that he returns her feelings, offering to dance with her in episode 26, and in episode 24 he says that she should not give up and breaks the mask by calling out to her several times. In Kibou no Chikara ~Otona Pretty Cure '23~, it's revealed that Nozomi has been writing letters to Coco even after graduating from college. Komachi refers to Coco as Nozomi's soulmate, and he later becomes her apartment neighbour. Upon finding out that the Time Flower is having a negative impact on Nozomi's life, Coco becomes concerned and begs Nozomi to not transform anymore. Following the final battle against the Shadows, Coco visits Nozomi in her hospital room and says that he needs her by his side. After waking up, Nozomi agrees with him, so Coco proposes to Nozomi, who accepts his proposal, and both get married in the end.
  • Milk: Milk and Nozomi are always in constant disagreements over food, especially chocolate. Milk criticizes Nozomi often because she does not think Nozomi is capable of being a good leader or a good caretaker for her princes, and they usually fight over Coco's attention. However, they begin a friendship later on.
  • Katagiri Rumi: Nozomi's student at Plaisir Academy. After learning about Rumi's situation, Nozomi does everything she can to help Rumi stay at Plaisir Academy so she can follow her dream of being a dancer. However, after realizing she can't help Rumi, Nozomi cries in front of her. Nozomi then promises Rumi that she'll be an even better teacher the next time they meet.

Etymology[]

Yumehara (夢原?) can be understood by separating both words in this surname. Yume (?) translates to "dream", obviously referring to her alter ego Cure Dream, and hara (?) translates to "field", a part which was probably only added to make Yumehara sound like an actual surname, even though it is not one since "hara" is a commonly used component in Japanese family names.

Nozomi (のぞみ?) translates to "wish; desire; hope". This obviously refers to her roles as the Pretty Cure of Hope, and may also refer to her primary desire of granting Coco's wish to revive the Palmier Kingdom in Yes! Pretty Cure 5.

Cure Dream refers to her dream of being a part of Pretty Cure and helping to grant Coco's wish, as well as not having any dreams before she gained her powers.

History[]

Yes! Pretty Cure 5[]

Nozomi and Natsuki Rin are childhood best friends. Nozomi is unsure of what she wants to do in life, having tried various clubs at school, which ranged from unsuccessful to disastrous results.

Accidentally bumping into a good-looking guy, she introduces herself to him until he suddenly runs away and disappears. Later that morning, after publicly embarrassing herself, Nozomi meets and introduces herself to Kasugano Urara, offering to help the underclassman if she needed it. After class, Nozomi sees the guy from before going into the school library, and immediately follows him. She finds and accidentally discovers he is really a fluffy fairy named Coco, and also finds the Dream Collet with him. Then Girinma attacks them, and Nozomi makes up her mind to help Coco, summoning the butterfly earlier to get the Pinky Catch, and becoming Cure Dream for the first time. Karen, however, presents a problem for not believing their story at first, though some persistence from Nozomi and an attack by Bunbee solve that. Coco then chases after Nozomi, and he takes Nozomi to ride on a hot air balloon to cheer her up. Nozomi then opens up to Coco, telling him that she always finds studying difficult. However, after Coco gives her a metaphor about the hot air balloon, Nozomi begins to understand that she needs to learn how to trust others and herself for filling in her own potential. After fighting off Arachnea's Kowaina, Nozomi proves herself to have improved on her test result the next day, and sets a steady goal for herself with her friends.YPC511

Upon knowing that her mother is sick, Nozomi volunteers to help. However, Nozomi keeps fumbling on handling the chores, which makes her fail even more due to being too focused on the mess she made. She eventually answers Yu and Ai, who thank her for teaching them, that one must study to nurture curiosity and grow through knowledge, which is something she has learned from Coco. YPC5GG22

When the Rose Pact is stolen by Syrup, Nozomi and the rest are surprised to learn that Syrup is associated with Eternal. Transformations[]

Pretty Cure Metamorphose - "Pretty Cure Metamorphose!" is the official phrase Nozomi uses to transform into Cure Dream in Yes! Pretty Cure 5 and Yes! Pretty Cure 5 Go Go!.

In Yes! Pretty Cure 5, Nozomi's Pinky Catch opens and she shouts, "Pretty Cure..." Then she makes a circular motion with her arm while shouting, "...metamorphose!" Her body then gets covered in a pink glow. Her top and brooch appear, followed by her arm warmers, skirt, and boots. Her hair lengthens, also gets slightly lighter, and gets styled after that. Finally, her Pinky Catch closes and Cure Dream recites her introductory speech.

In Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo!, her CureMo opens and she presses the buttons while saying, "Pretty Cure metamorphose!" Her CureMo's screen sparkles and pink light surrounds her body. Then appears a pink light with light showing at the end. Nozomi appears with her body covered in pink light. After her arm warmers appear, she curls herself into a ball and when she uncurls herself, she is fully clothed with her hair styled. Cure Dream flies down, then opens her eyes and recites her introductory speech.

Attacks[]

  • Dream Attack (ドリームアタック?): Cure Dream raises her hand, and as she says the incantation, the butterfly symbol on her left hand shines. The light then flies out from the symbol and, in the shape of a pink butterfly, flies around her once before stopping in front of her. She reaches out with her open hand and pushes the butterfly towards the enemy, causing an explosion upon impact.
  • Crystal Shoot (クリスタルシュート?): The light from Cure Dream's butterfly bow shines, whereas the light follows her left arm. When it has reached her fingertips, the Dream Torch appears. Using this, she first spins around, surrounded by fragments of pink light, before pointing it at the enemy. When doing so, the Dream Torch shoots out clusters of pink crystal fragments.
  • Shooting Star (シューティングスター?): Cure Dream makes fists with both hands and crosses them in front of her chest, causing a butterfly-shaped emblem to glow in her signature color. Cure Dream spreads her arms apart and goes up into the sky. She then streaks downward and clasps her hands together to form a butterfly shield. The shield hits the target and usually defeats it, while Cure Dream flies through unharmed.
  • Five Explosion (ファイブエクスプロージョン?): This is a group attack she performs with the other Cures during Yes! Pretty Cure 5. To perform it, they need the Symphony Set and for Milk's willpower to be at its peak. For this attack, they ram the enlarged set into the enemy to purify it.
  • Rainbow Rose Explosion (レインボーローズエクスプロージョン?): This is a group attack she performs with the other Cures during Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo! For it, they need the Cure Fleurets. The attack itself has them summoning roses in their respective theme colors that combine to purify the enemy.
  • In episode 38, she and Milky Rose make an extremely similar attack to the "Marble Screw", an attack Cure Black and Cure White performed throughout the Futari wa Pretty Cure series.
  • Healin' Good Dream (ヒーリングっど・ドリーム?): An attack Dream performs with Cure Grace as Dream Cure Grace in the Healin' Good movie. To perform it, she needs the Healin' Good Arrow.
  • Butterfly Effect Shining Dream (バタフライエフェクト・シャイニングドリーム?): This is a multi-group attack she performs with her friends, Cure Black and Cure White, Cure Bloom and Cure Egret, and Milky Rose. It was used in the final battle of Kibou no Chikara ~Otona Pretty Cure '23~. It combined the powers of Milky Rose Metal Blizzard, Spiral Heart Splash and Marble Screw Max with the powers of the Yes! 5 Cures to unleash a swarm of multicolored butterflies that purify the amalgamation of Shadows.
