"A wish to the stars! Let everyone stay together for~ever!!" (星にねがいを!みんなず~っと一緒!! Hoshi ni negai wo! Minna zu~tto issho!!?) is the 21st episode of Smile Pretty Cure!, the 18th episode of Glitter Force, and the 410th episode of the Pretty Cure franchise overall. In this episode, the girls work hard to earn the last Cure Decor piece to revive Royale Queen. The English title is "Wish Upon a Star".

Synopsis[]

The girls prepare to celebrate Tanabata when Pop returns to visit the group. After telling them about a similar custom from Märchenland- in which wishes are made to a Pegasus, they decide to celebrate both holidays.

Summary[]

On the morning of the Tanabata festival, Miyuki is admiring the good weather when a blue book flutters down from a sky. It strikes Miyuki in the face and Pop appears from the book, knocking her over. Candy cries out in joy at the arrival of her brother.

Meanwhile, Joker looks at the countdown clock, called the Bad Energy Memory, and proclaims that Pierrot will be revived in two more turns.

Miyuki's wish

The girls welcome Pop to their secret base within the Library and he congratulates them for collecting most of the Cure Decor pieces. He informs them that they just need one more piece to revive the Royale Queen and save Märchenland. The girls are frightened about fighting Emperor Pierrot, but Miyuki encourages them with an optimistic speech.

Nao and Reika explain the story behind Tanabata: the two celestial lovers, Orihime and Hikoboshi, can only reunite on the night of Tanabata, on July 7th. It is celebrated by writing wishes on paper strips called tanzaku, and hanging them on a bamboo tree. Pop tells them about a similar festival celebrated in Märchenland, called Pegasus Day, where they lay out candles and wish on a shooting stars, hoping that Pegasi will grant their wishes. Pop even transforms into a pegasus, and Miyuki attempts to ride him.

The girls hang their wishes the bamboo tree. Nao wishes to revive the Royale Queen and go on vacation with her family, Reika wishes to save Märchenland and follow a just and noble path, Miyuki hopes to find lots of wonderful new stories, Akane wishes for the success of her family business, and Yayoi wishes to get better at drawing. Miyuki decides to decorate the Tanabata tree with a necklace made using Star Cure Decor.

Finally, Pop writes his wish: he hopes to acquire all sixteen Decors. Candy writes several wishes, including to eat a lot of cake, and to eat a lot of ice cream. Thinking how much she loves her friends, she writes one more: "I hope I can play with Miyuki and her friends forever!" They travel back home via the bookshelf.

That night, the girls head to the park to watch a once-in-a-lifetime meteor shower. The starry sky reminds Pop of Märchenland, and he hopes to show the girls his homeland one day. Miyuki thanks Candy for helping her to make wonderful friends, and the girls wish on shooting stars. They ask Candy what she wrote on her wish for the Tanabata tree, but she says it's a secret. Pop recognizes that Candy may have power that nobody yet knows.

Suddenly, Akaoni appears to steal Bad Energy from the people gathered to watch the meteor shower. The girls transform, and Akaoni uses a Red Nose to transforms the Tanabata bamboo tree into an Akanbe. They begin fighting it but are soon overwhelmed by the Akanbe's chains and a fan made from Tanabata wishes, which strikes up a powerful wind.

Akaoni taunts the Pretty Cures and tells them to give up, but they refuse, because they are committed to their wishes to save Märchenland. The Akanbe almost blows away Cure Happy, but her friends catch her. The girls link hands, and Cure Happy promises that together, their wishes will create a future filled with smiles. With renewed determination they fight the Akanbe, and Cure Happy engages it in a beam clash with Happy Shower. The others join in the attack with their finishing moves, and Happy Shower defeats the Akanbe.

The Akanbe releases the last Cure Decor, the Sunflower Decor, and Akaoni retreats. Just as they are about to place the last piece into the Decor Décor, Joker appears and snatches both it and Candy away.

Back at the secret base, a gust of wind blows Candy's tanzaku, showing that her wish was to be with the girls forever—and that Joker doesn't have all the Decors, because the Star Decor is still hanging from the tree.

Trivia[]

  • This is the seventh episode where Miyuki is hit in the face with an object: previously with Candy, a volleyball, a soccer ball, Pop's book, a mallet, an ice cream, and now Pop's book again.
  • The painting which appears Yayoi's wish is yet another depiction of her original characters. She's seen drawing this in the opening and in episode 3 and episode 41.
  • Reika once again draws the kanji 「道」, "path", which appears in several episodes.
  • Pop's wish to show Märchenland to the girls in person comes true in the next episode.
  • In this episode, Nao makes a wish to go on holiday with her family. In episode 30, she reveals that the reason she cannot go on holiday is that their family is too large for it to be financially practical.

Edits in Glitter Force[]

  • Tanabata is referred to as the Star Festival, which is a valid alternate name for the holiday rather than being made up.
    • Chloe (Reika) refers to the legendary lovers Hikoboshi and Orihime as the Boy Star and the Girl Star.
    • The Tanabata bamboo is called a Wish Tree. Wish trees are trees by which wishes are made, making bamboo trees used for Tanabata a type of wish tree.
  • Pegasus Day is renamed Pegasus Night.
  • The combination of the girls' individual finishing attacks is named Glitter Force Spirit Blast.
