Papple (パップル Pappuru?) is a former villain from HUGtto! Pretty Cure. She is a woman who works for the Criasu Corporation as section chief in the Azababu branch office. She is purified by Cure Macherie and Cure Amour in episode 22.

Bio[]

Appearance[]

Papple wears a short low cut purple dress with cutouts on the sides, fishnet stockings, and stiletto heels. Over it she wears a long black coat that's red on the inside and has a fur collar. She wears a gold necklace, earrings and bracelets. She also carries a feather-trimmed fan that she uses to gesture and attack. She has green eyes and medium-length dark blue hair styled into a large wave on top, with purple streaks in it. She also wears noticeable makeup.

When she temporarily becomes a Cure in episode 48, her dress covers her body more with fluffy trim along her skirt, jacket sleeves, and collar. The back of her skirt has a long furry train while the trim on her fan is thicker.

Personality[]

In her initial appearance, Papple was a coquettish and pushy woman who maintained an energetic and bubbly facade. She was also quite nasty and unsympathetic even to her colleagues, especially towards Ruru whom she regarded as a "mechanical doll".

Nonetheless, deep inside her heart, she desperately yearns for love and was extremely grief-stricken after realizing George cheated on her. Fortunately, after her purification, she is now more friendly towards the Cures despite still having a bit of her temper intact.

Relationships[]

  • Listol: Her superior at Criasu, until she defected from Criasu.
  • Daigan: One of her colleagues at Criasu. She can be quite harsh on him, but later hired him as a member of her talent agency and cares for him more after she was purified. She does get mad at him for trying to return to Criasu, though.
  • Charaleet: One of her colleagues at Criasu. She saw him as a good-for-nothing boy who kept failing because he didn’t follow company protocol. She later hired him as a member of her talent agency after she was purified. She starts caring for him more after defecting from Criasu.
  • Ruru Amour: Another colleague. In episode 7, she tried to form a bond with Ruru, only for Ruru to fail to understand love. When Ruru joined the Cures, she viewed Ruru as a traitor. After Cure Amour and Cure Macherie purified her, she finally accepted her in episode 22.
  • Aisaki Emiru: She used to belittle Emiru for being friends with Ruru, but later accepted Emiru after she and Ruru purified her in episode 22.
  • Gelos: Her junior and rival at Criasu. Papple left Criasu after discovering her boyfriend having an affair with Gelos, which Gelos cruelly mocked her for.
  • George Kurai: Her ex-boyfriend and boss at Criasu. She often referred to him dearly, until Papple caught him cheating on her with Gelos.

Etymology[]

"Papple" (パップル Pappuru?) is most likely a play on "bubble" (バブル baburu?), a reference to the era she's from (see trivia item below).

History[]

Papple debuts in episode 6 to replace Charleet on missions to summon Oshimaidas. She later starts working with Ruru in episode 7. When Charleet begs her for one more chance in episode 11, Papple uses Prickly Powerer to transform him into an Oshimaida.

Sometime after observing Ruru, Papple orders Ruru to steal the Cures' PreHearts, but then realizes Ruru has returned Étoile's PreHeart. As a punishment, Papple shoots a powerful beam which is strong enough to damage Ruru, and she takes Ruru away from the Cures.HuPC16

After retrieving Ruru back to Criasu, Papple and Listol erase Ruru's memories that are related to her friendship with the Cures, rendering Ruru into an emotionless battle machine. However, Papple becomes surprised when Ruru finally gains free will and defies her, before she angrily retreats.HuPC17

When meeting Emiru, who has become Ruru's friend, Papple ridicules Emiru for befriending Ruru, who Papple regards as a "mechanical doll".HuPC18 When Papple arrives to summon an Oshimaida to destroy a concert, she mocks Ruru for betraying Criasu. She tries to bring Yell down, but Yell remains resolute to fight against her Oshimaida. Nevertheless, Papple is surprised when Ruru and Emiru's friendship give both the chance to become Cure Amour and Cure Macherie, before she complains and storms off after she is again defeated.HuPC20

Sometime later, Papple not only has been demoted by Listol, but she has finally caught on with George cheating on her, seeing that he has been close with Gelos behind her back. Having fallen into deep despair, Papple creates her own Prickly Powerer to swallow, turning herself into an Oshimaida. However, Macherie and Amour reach out to Papple, telling her that she has a heart, and they both purify her.HuPC22

After being purified, Papple opens her talent agency and hires Charleet and Daigan. She becomes friends with the girls, even having a pool party with them.HuPC24 During Halloween, when Papple finds out Daigan wants to return to Criasu, she gives him her tough love by slapping him in frustration, but she makes him feel better by telling him how other people actually like his snacks.HuPC38 She is also one of the guests at the girls' Christmas party.HuPC45

Papple is one of the ex-Criasu members who helps the Cures to fight against the hordes of Mou Oshimaidas, before getting overwhelmed by George's powers.HuPC47 She later temporarily becomes a Cure with other civilians to help the Cures fight against George.HuPC48

After George is redeemed, Papple and the other ex-Criasu members, along with Hariham Harry and Hugtan, return to the future with Doctor Traum's train. 12 years later, she comes across an older Homare at the airport, and is glad to see Homare is doing well as Homare leaves for the hospital to support Hana.HuPC49

Abilities[]

Like her other colleagues, she calls forth a victim's Prickly Powerer with the words "Hope for tomorrow, begone! Negative Wave!" (明日への希望よ消えろ!ネガティブウェーブ! Asu e no kibō yo kiero! Negatibu Uēbu!?). She can then turn this power into an Oshimaida with the words "I'm ordering you! Oshimaida!" (発注!オシマイダー! Hacchū! Oshimaidā!?).

She can also use her fan as a weapon, using it to defeat multiple Mou-Oshimaida in episode 47, and can also defend herself with it.

Trivia[]

  • Papple's flashy style and peculiar speech are stereotypical of rich young women from the so-called "Bubble" era (about 1986-1991).
    • In keeping with this, the taxi she uses for transportation appears to be a Toyota Crown Comfort (a popular model for taxis) from the same period, and the portable phone she uses to summon her Oshimaidas is a late '80s type.
  • Papple shares her voice actress with Amanogawa Stella from Go! Princess Pretty Cure.
