Mrs.Otaka/Otaka-san (おタカさん Otaka-san?) is a minor character from Yes! Pretty Cure 5 and Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo!. She is both the mistress of the cafeteria in girls' school where they always eat lunch, and the Headmistress of L'École des Cinq Lumières.

Appearance[]

Otaka-san has brown hair and eyes. She is usually seen wearing a green shirt over a white tank, with a yellow apron, blue jeans, and white flats.

Personality[]

Otaka-san is a cheerful, middle-aged woman that all the students look up to. As such, she tends to give them advice with their issues, but only enough to push them in the right direction, rather than to just handhold them to the solution.

A quirk of hers is to exaggerate the amount of change she hands back to students when serving them lunch, by multiplying the original amount by 10,000. For example, in the fourteenth episode of Yes! Pretty Cure 5, she gives a random student "2 million yen" in change, when in fact, the actual amount is "200 yen." Despite this, she claims to be a 5th-degree arithmetician.

As headmistress, she truly cares for all the students at her school, even going undercover to be closer to them rather than look down at them from atop her position.

Her voice as "Otaka-san" is raspy, while her normal speaking voice as the headmistress is much less so and more refined.

History[]

She used to be a teacher at Cinq Lumières, getting along with her students and offering them advice when they needed it. However, when she was promoted to headmistress, a social barrier formed between her and the students, making it difficult to interact with them as much. As such, she goes undercover as "Otaka-san," the lunchlady that works at the school's cafe, while also handling her duties as the headmistress. At first, the vice-principal was the only person who knew the identity of the headmistress, acting as a spokesperson for the students to her.YPC540

One day, Karen, the student council president, faced a dilemma when many of the school's extracurricular organizations asked for an increase in their individual budgets. The headmistress, believing that there were still solutions available that didn't involve simply raising the school's budget, kept a hands-off approach from the situation. Eventually the council and the organizations came to a compromise.YPC514

Later on, Masuko Mika wanted to write an article on the true identity of the school's headmistress. Karen also wanted to know, as she wanted to thank her for always caring about the students, so she and the girls conducted their own investigation. However, Hadenya from Nightmare would infiltrate the school, and knock both the headmistress and vice-principal unconscious, assuming the identity of the former. After the girls defeat Hadenya, they find the two adults and tend to them, learning that who they thought was Otaka was actually the headmistress all along. In the end, the headmistress requests the girls to keep her identity a secret, as she wants to continue going undercover to care for her students without the prestige of her title.YPC540

In the sequel season, Otaka continues to work both her jobs. One day, Syrup goes to the school to deliver a letter to Karen. He comes across Otaka's cafe, as a can of tomatoes rolls over to him. Otaka asks if he could bring that to her, which he does, and he ends up getting roped into helping her out with inventory. To thank him for his help, Otaka whips up some pancakes for Syrup, who can't get enough of them. Karen then appears, giving Syrup the alias "Amai Shiroh" on the spot to keep his cover hidden. The following day, Otaka hires Syrup to help him with the lines at the cafe during the afternoon, offering him pancakes in payment.YPC5GG05
