Nishijima Waon (西島和音^?) is a supporting character from Suite Pretty Cure♪. She's a tomboyish girl who passionately enjoys sports, and is on the same team as Hibiki.

Appearance[]

Waon has short, spiky, light blue hair and blue eyes. She is most often seen in her school uniform.

Personality[]

Waon is a sporty and energetic friend of Hibiki's. She isn't very good at studying but makes up for it with her optimistic nature. She is also loyal and will always come through to help someone in need.

Relationships[]

Hojo Hibiki: Her teammate and close friend. Waon really likes Hibiki and supports whatever goal she is pursuing, assuring her that she would be by her side no matter what. She shows up whenever Hibiki whistles or calls for her.

Etymology[]

Nishijima (西島, Nishijima^?): The 西 (Nishi) in Waon's last name means west, whereas the 島 (Shima) means island, so her last name can be roughly translated to The West Island.

Waon (和音, Waon^?) means Chord, which would fit with the musical theme. However, it could also be a play on Wan, a Japanese onomatopoeia for a dog barking.

History[]

Waon is first seen in episode 1, where she is playing soccer with Hibiki and the others. Hibiki scores a goal, and Waon and the others are impressed with her skills.

In episode 11, when Hibiki and Kanade try to participate in a music talent show, first without a piano, and later unable to move one given by an old man, Waon suddenly appears, telling Hibiki that she is always there whenever she needs help. She then asks people to help them move the piano. With the help of Waon and the others, the two of them can finally perform on stage.

In episode 30, when Hibiki needs help studying, Waon comes to help her. After telling Hibiki about the harmonizing wolves from the night before, it is revealed she, like Hibiki, is awful at studying, though she oddly seems to be proud of it.

In episode 42, both Waon and Seika are controlled by Noise to steal the Cure Modules, but it turns out the ones they stole are fakes. Thanks to the Cures and also their own will, she and Seika are later freed from the mind control.

Trivia[]

Waon follows the Pretty Cure series tradition of a main character having a friend on the sports team.
Her short, somewhat spiky hair and love of sports is similar to Natsuki Rin.
She shares her voice actor with Haruno Moe and Aihara Yuuki (as a child), minor characters from Go! Princess Pretty Cure.
Waon has come up with her own attack, known as the "Waon Hyper Special Shoot". She used it against Bassdrum to keep him away from Fary, who had the note he needed.
