Kouchou

Kouchou (校長 Kōchō^?) is the headmaster of Magic School from Mahou Tsukai Pretty Cure!. He is known as the great magician of the Magic World.

Bio[]

Appearance[]

In his regular form, he has long silvery hair and green eyes and he wears a long-sleeved tan shirt with a blue tunic that has a high collar and a brown belt. He also wears a dark green cloak.

In his other form, he wears a long-sleeved white and gold robe with a light yellow gown underneath and white boots. He also wears a light blue cloak with a blue gradient and gold sun and moon designs along the bottom sides. He also wears a pink sash. His hat appears to be levitating above his head slightly and is white with a pink band, cream and purple cloth hanging along the sides, and gold ornaments on the top. His hear looks segmented now and gold rings similar to the Cures' bracelets encircle each segment. He carries a blue and gold staff.

In episode 20 and 37, because of all the power he used up, he temporarily had the appearance of an old man with long grayish-white hair and a beard.

Personality[]

He is a warm and friendly teacher and is known to the greatest magician in the "Magic World" as well as being the principal of the Magic School. He can be very excited when someone, namely Mirai and Riko, manages to perform amazing magic that no other magicians had done before.

Relationships[]

Kushe: They used to be childhood friends who attended and later taught at Magic School. Ever since Kushe started experimenting with Dark Magic, their relationship became one sided. But after Kouchou gets to read Kushe's letter, he finally comes to terms with Kushe's passing.
Magic Crystal: His trusty assistant, although she tends to scold him.
Yuki Kanoko: A person he met when he visited the No Magic World. He still remembers her from time to time.
Lian: They have known each other for some time, and Lian is one of the very few people who has learned about the Cures' identity from Kouchou.
Asahina Mirai and Izayoi Riko: He acts as their mentor, and is aware of their identities as Cures while also having faith in their abilities.
Ha-chan: As her mentor, Kouchou is impressed of her powerful magic, and knows both her identity as Cure Felice and her destiny as the successor of Mother RaPaPa while also having faith in her.

Etymology[]

Kouchou (校長, Kouchou^?) means 'principal' which is a reference to the fact that he is the principal of Magic School.

History[]

During his youth, Kouchou used to be friends with Kushe, but they later fell apart after Kushe became obsessed with Dark Magic. As an adult, he visited the No Magic World and met Yuki Kanoko after rescuing a cat.^MTPC17

Kouchou tells Mirai about the Wand Tree, and witnesses the tree create a magic wand for the first time in centuries. After the Cures purify Batty's Yokubaru, he tells Riko that she will not be punished, and allows Mirai to study at the Magic School during the Spring Break.^MTPC02 He is surprised when both girls have found the Linkle Smartbook and the baby who is born from it. ^MTPC05 After Mirai returned to the No Magic World, Kouchou allows Riko and Ha-chan to be with her there.^MTPC09

After both Mirai and Riko return to the Magic World, they want to ask him about Ha-chan, only to find that he is absent, so they decide to search for him through the mysterious door hidden within the tree.^MTPC19 They later discover that Kouchou actually has gone to confront the Dark Magicians and Dokurokushe by himself, and he transforms into his greater magician form to protect the girls, only to reveal his true old age after using up too much power.^MTPC20 Throughout Miracle and Magical's fight with Dokurokushe, Kouchou and Mofurun watch them struggling against Dokurokushe's dark magic. To Kouchou's surprise, Dokurokushe's grudge is cleansed by Ha-chan, and he watches Kushe ascending to the heavens.^MTPC21

Sometime later, Kouchou starts contacting Lian about the Cures' identity and also about a calamity he fears is approaching^MTPC27, and he realizes the calamity, which is actually Deusmast, from the legends is real.^MTPC31 He later sends Lian to the No Magic World for a day to help the girls and apologizes to them that he has told Lian about their Cure identities.^MTPC33

Later, Kouchou realizes something is wrong with the mandarins' harvest, and also reveals that he once met the Queen of the Fairy Village along time ago. He then takes the girls to the Ice Island to enlist some help of the ice dragons to freeze the mandarins, only to find out the dragons are sick. When Benigyo's Donkoyubaru attacks, he tries protecting the Cures, but uses up too much power, which reveals his old age. But fortunately he restores his youthful appearance after drinking some herbal tea and is able to enjoy the frozen mandarins with the girls.^MTPC37

He and Watanabe Mayu serve as the hosts of the pumpkin bird catching competition during Magic World's Halloween, and in the end tells the participants to brush their teeth after they all receive toothbrushes from the pumpkin bird.^MTPC38 He and the rest of the Magic School body then travel to No Magic World to celebrate its version of Halloween, and during the festival he comes across and recognizes Kanako, who he helps return the balloons she is finding, before he leaves.^MTPC39

Kouchou later goes to the old tree where he confronted Dokurokushe and recalls the memories he had with his old friend, only to be attacked by Orba. To his shock, Orba has already retrieved Kushe's book and actually gets away with the theft. Having no choice, Kouchou finally reveals the secret of Kushe's book to the girls.^MTPC41 He later arrives in the No Magic World to get help from the girls, and comes across Batty. He attempts to retrieve Kushe's book from Orba, and is angered by how Orba insulted his late friend. After the fight with Orba has ended and the Dokurokushe effigy has faded away, Kouchou finally gets to read Kushe's letter for him in the book, and he is filled with lots of emotions upon realizing that Kushe still cares about him and cherishes their friendship.^MTPC45

When Deusmast engulfs the two worlds in darkness and chaos, Kouchou through live television reassures everyone that they will be saved by the Cures. However, he also informs the girls that both worlds will be flung apart from each other and they won't be able to meet each other again for a long time.^MTPC48 He later joins Kushe and the other people to support the Cures during the Cures' final battle against Deusmast.^MTPC49

A few years later, he gets to meet the girls again. He is surprised that Riko is predicted by Magic Crystal to be his successor in the near future, but he is still hopeful with what the future will unfold for him and everyone else.^MTPC50

Trivia[]

His hair color and appearance is similar to Baritone from Suite Pretty Cure♪.
It is unknown what his actual age is; even many characters have debated so. In episode 17, he was shown to look the same even when Kanako was a teen. This is more evident in episode 20 when he turned old after Dokurokushe weakened him; this could be his actual age. In addition, he speaks like an elderly despite how young he looks.
His favorite food is frozen mandarins.
He appears as the Prince in the Mofurundella story in episode 29.
He is able to maintain his youthful appearance through drinking herbal tea, as shown in episode 22 and 37.
