Desperaia (デスパライア, Desuparaia^?) is the top of the Nightmares. She intends to gain eternal life to bring despair to all the world, and has ordered her subordinates to obtain the Dream Collet. She has long brown hair and wears a purple dress and a mask.

History

Desperaia is not very active until about the middle of the series. In fact it seems that Bunbee is in charge of Nightmare for the first couple of episodes. She's usually seen behind her desk wearing a mask and giving orders to her male secretary Kawarino. Before this, she presumably ordered the attack on the Palmier Kingdom to get the Dream Collette because of her selfish desire to be young and immortal forever. She continues this quest through Kawarino and has the Pretty Cures attacked at every turn. She makes a short appearance mid-series by leaving her desk to confront the Cures. In the last three episodes she takes a slightly more active role by helping Kawarino and is totally surprised by the hope that Yumehara Nozomi and her friends have despite the fact that the Dream Colette has already been used up.

Appearance

For most of the series she looks like a Japanese masked doll and wears traditional clothing and headdresses.

Etymology

Her name "Desperaia" appears to play of the words "despair" and "pariah".

Trivia

Desperaia is the first main villain to be female, followed by Queen Mirage and Dyspear.
Desperia is the first main villain to form a truce instead of continuing with their original plan.
Her and the other main villains' silhouettes (Dark King, Goyan, the Boss, Moebius and Dune) are seen in Pretty Cure All Stars DX 3: Mirai ni Todoke! Sekai wo Tsunagu☆Niji-Iro no Hana. Desperaia's silhouette represents Nightmare.
She has the same voice actress as Bebel and Bando Isuzu - Aida Mana's grandmother, a minor character from Doki Doki! Pretty Cure: Mana Kekkon!!? Mirai ni Tsunagu Kibō no Dress.
Desperaia is the only villain not to appear in Pretty Cure All Stars: Minna de Utau♪ Kiseki no Mahou! with Boss taking the spot for her.
